The Dynamic Duo in Suits
66Suits: USA Network Summer Series
Harvey: “Look, I have to put my own interests above your. It’s nothing personal. You’re fired.”
Mike: “What? So you’re worried that if I stay they might find out about me and you’ll lose your license. But if you fire me then I could tell them you lied about me and you’ll definitely lose your license.”
Harvey: “Are you telling me that if I throw you under the bus, you’re going to drag me with you?”
Mike: “You put your interests above mine and I’m just putting mind back up next to yours.”
Harvey: “You’re rehired.”
A Fun and Totally Addictive Show
I am totally addicted to the TV series Suits and I am totally in love with its stars Gabriel Macht as Harvey Specter and Patrick J. Adams as Mike Ross. Harvey is one of New York’s best lawyers and legal closers. Mike is a brilliant college dropout with an eidetic memory. Mike has never been to law school but he has passed the bar exam several times however, always for other people. He almost got caught leaving the exam room and had to run so as not to get himself and the student he is taking the exam for in trouble. Later in a drug deal gone bad he ends up running from the cops and into the elite law offices of Manhattan’s Pearson Hardman. The firm is interviewing for a new, Harvard grad, law associate for Harvey and Mike takes the name badge of a late interviewee. During the interview Harvey, of course, learns that Mike is not a Harvard law school graduate, not a graduate from any law school, has probably never seen inside a law school but realizes that Mike has a talent that will serve him and ultimately the firm well. So Mike is hired as a Harvard grad law associate and they must now find a way to, and at all cost, keep their secret. And so the adventures begin.
Harvey is extremely confident and deals with his cases and clients with a cold detachment. He has been described as a shark. Mike is both book smart and street smart with a level of concern and sympathy for the clients that helps remind Harvey why he became a lawyer. Mike knows textbook law and can recite cases and theory chapter and verse. Harvey knows how to work the law and together they make a dynamic duo. Harvey is excellent in the way he practice law and Mike’s skills and talent help bring Harvey up a couple notches. Justice Earl Warren once said “It is the spirit and not the law that keep justice alive.” Harvey and Mike are good for each other, make an outstanding team and they bring spirit to what they are doing for their clients.
I love Mike and his moral compass which is just a little left of being right. He struggles to do the right thing for, and with, his friends--one friend in particular, Trevor played by Tom Lipinski. They have been friends since childhood and Mike struggles with loyalty. He knows his friend is in serious trouble and wants to always be there for him against the advice of both his grandmother and Harvey. I also love Mike because of his love and devotion to his grandmother, played by Rebecca Schull.
Harvey is a rock star lawyer and in Manhattan you don’t get much better than his legal skills. His ability to close a case allows him to do so before actually appearing in court. He is disarming, calm, self-assured and trusts in his own ability almost to a fault; and, he is extremely well dressed. I love the fact that he gave Mike a chance for probably all the wrong reason but soon grew to care about him and protect him even though he refuse to show his care and concern. He often push Mike to perform and excel beyond what Mike think is doable. Mike never disappoints.
A Final Thought
There is one thing that I really love about Harvey--I love and adore his swagger.
Harvey and Mike are not empty suits. The two are very impressive and they serve justice in a most appealing way.
The very beautiful Gina Torres as Jessica Pearson and managing partner of Pearson Hardman rounds out a most excellent cast. If you have not watched this summer’s USA Network break out new hit, please give yourself an hour of pure fun.
Love to all,
Nonna
